Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic since the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I want up in that situation other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club that has never reached in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto's team claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
