This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
