The Actress Expresses Mentioning Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels suitable to speak out regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and increase separation across the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes the Actress
During a discussion, the Oscar winner reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has previously been open about supporting Republican and Democratic candidates throughout her life. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and explaining she understood during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Several years ago, she stated that Trump winning the presidency might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “because I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”
Celebrity Views
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her rejection of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted she about Trump’s presidency. “Since he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a young mom who deals with her psychological well-being in the countryside. During a media event for the movie in Venice, the star commented on the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by stating that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be normalised to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
The actor aimed to shift frustration about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her role in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in the new film. Even though Ramsay has disputed the narrative being seen as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, she said that she connected with aspects of her film narrative after the delivery of her second son, shortly after production wrapped.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to cast off vanity. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
