Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.
Edwards is presently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
However the ex- Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club directors as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
