Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
