'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Missing Young People Await Information After Ski Resort Inferno
The families of teens lost after a tragic fire at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for information about their family members publicly.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Confirmed footage reveal the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Authorities have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and wounded another over a hundred. Authorities said on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to identify the remaining few.
In the meantime, loved ones have been taking to social media to request information about their loved ones who were in attendance that fateful night.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near the city, told a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she said.
She explained that some of his companions had been found with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they went through hell."
The Italy's foreign ministry has said that six of its citizens have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is deceased, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A close friend said they escaped after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
