Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
