Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
