Homages Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt ready to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the production, commenting that he doesn't recollect "any day without joy".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to block the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order issued a embargo on the files to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" pertaining to the probe.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the deaths, public figures offered varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making provocative claims that were met with immediate backlash by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the detractors recently. Talking on his show, Rogan characterized the comments as "disturbing" and remarked they demonstrated a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by proposing that an aide should have stepped in when the decision to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
